The grinding track, also known as the grinding chamber liner ring, is designed as a modular wear component for simple removal and replacement on JACAN ACM air classifying mills. Most models adopt a segmented liner construction rather than a single solid ring, reducing maintenance labour and spare-part costs.
1. Pre-operation Safety Lockout
Before any disassembly, lock out power and isolate the system air supply. Release negative pressure inside the mill and clean residual powder from the grinding chamber to avoid cross-contamination or dust hazards. Open the hinged mill housing or side access cover to expose the grinding chamber.
2. Disassembly Sequence
- Remove feed inlet duct, baffle shroud and deflector components to clear access space.
- Take out the classifier wheel assembly and rotor assembly sequentially, which sit in front of the grinding track.
- Release the retaining bolts or locking clamps on the liner support ring.
- Extract worn grinding track segments one by one. Many liner segments are reversible; operators can flip unused surfaces to extend service life before full replacement.
- Remove old gaskets and thoroughly clean the backing support ring mounting surface.
3. Installation Of New Grinding Track
- Inspect new liner segments for cracks, casting defects or dimensional errors. Standard track material is hardened tool steel; high-chromium cast iron or ceramic liners are available for abrasive mineral and battery material processing.
- Fit segments into the support ring, align positioning keys and gaps evenly around the full circle. Maintain uniform gaps between adjacent liner blocks to prevent powder lodging.
- Secure locking clamps or mounting bolts with specified torque, ensuring no loose segments during high-speed impact operation.
- Reinstall rotor, classifier wheel, baffle shroud and inlet connections in reverse order.
- Calibrate the grinding gap between hammer tips and liner inner surface, then check chamber sealing to prevent air leakage.
4. Post-replacement Commissioning
Run no-load test for 10–20 minutes. Monitor vibration, temperature and noise. Confirm stable airflow before feeding material. Recheck liner fasteners after the first 2–4 hours of production.
5. Key Design Advantages
- Segmented design: Only heavily worn individual segments need replacement instead of the whole ring, cutting spare part expense.
- Quick access split chamber: No heavy casing lifting required on modern ACM models.
- Multiple material options: steel, high-chrome and ceramic tracks are interchangeable within the same chamber frame.
- Reversible liner surfaces double service life for moderate abrasion applications.
The ACM grinding track is replaceable via chamber side access after removing rotor and classifier assemblies. Segmented liner blocks are clamped onto a support ring. Operators replace worn segments, re-seal, reset hammer-liner gap and perform no-load testing before restarting production.
